Recommendation: For burns that cross the anterior hip joint and/or medial.

Purpose: To assist in positioning the hip joints into abduction and neutral rotation, thereby decreasing the risk of flexion and adduction contractures at the hip.

How to Apply:

  1. Keep the lower half of the bed flat.
  2. Abduct the patients legs.
  3. Place the pillow between the legs, as far proximal as possible.
  4. Fasten Velcro straps.

Recommended: Splint should be worn both pre and post grafting.

Wear Time: (STSG and Integra). Wear time is up to 20 hours per day as tolerated, with hour rests every three hours. (Rests are optional if patient can tolerate prolonged wear.)

Cautions: Monitor for redness, especially along the Velcro straps. Monitor for maceration. A blanket can be used to cover the pillow should maceration become an issue. Should this occur, discontinue use and contact P.T./O.T.
